If you start buying the toys...then you should worry.
But if you simply enjoy watching it on youtube and listening to music remixes. That's fine.

MLP 'used' to be for little girls and effeminate males.
But animation is still art.
If animation is done poorly, no matter the target audience, it'll suck.
If the animation is aimed towards girls, but is done REALLY well, then it'll appeal to all audiences.
Don't forget, it was produced by Lauren Fraust, PPG's wife. Who is famous for producing 'hit' animations with lots of charm.
